The church is designed by the Yuriy Velten and is located just opposite the Chesma Palace. The church was constructed in the year 1780 to mark the victory of Russia over Turks in a major battle fought in the Chesme Bay. To celebrate the victory, Catherine the great, the then Empress of Russian ordered to built the church and the adjacent palace.
