Dunes Golf and Country Club, Saint Petersburg is the first golf course in St. Petersburg. It was founded in the year 1996 having been previously attached to the popular sanatorium “Dunes”. The Dunes Golf and Country Club, Saint Petersburg is just 38 kilometers away from the beautiful and historical city of St. Petersburg.
Dunes Golf and Country Club is located on the picturesque coast of the Gulf of Finland. There are about 70 members and about 150 people regularly visiting the Dunes Club. The Dunes Golf and Country Club in Saint Petersburg boasts of hundreds of members and visitors. The club essentially offers all the necessary facilities for playing and enjoying the game of golf.
Golf has become one go the most happening sports in Russia in general and in Saint Petersburg in particular. The key to the spread of the game in the north-west region of Russia is the opening of the Dunes Golf and Country Club. Russia did not have any golf courses before 1987. The history of the game started in Russia 16 years ago with the opening of a 9-hole course in Moscow.
Then, with the course of time, many other golf courses were opened in various parts of Russia. Dunes Golf and Country Club, Saint Petersburg has it first session of an open tournament on May 17, 2003, which was the Cup of Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel.
The tournament was played in two rounds, with nine holes each. The main prize of the tournament was a trip for 2 to Malta with a stay in one of the hotels owned by the Corinthia Hotels International. The prize also included tickets for 2 in Air Malta plane. The Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel acted as the sponsor and the organizer of the second annual golf tournament at the Dunes golf-course.
With the continuing growth of the Russian economy, the interest of people in golf has gradually increased and the importance of the Dunes Golf and Country Club, Saint Petersburg has also increased to a great extent.
