One of the main highlights is the Fautasi Outrigger Canoe race which is held annually in the month of June. In this event around 12 long boats each comprising 20 canoeists start from the north coast of Upolu and ends at the Apia Harbor. This day is very important in the Samoan calender as the day coincides with the Samoan Independence Day on this day festivals and dances are held outside the Samoan Parliament. The time of the year when the tourism in Samoa is at its peak is from the months of May to that of October.
