But weather in Scotland is rarely extreme making it favorable for the travelers who love to tour the various spots in the country. Scotland is warmed by the Gulf Stream from the Atlantic, and due to its northerly latitude it is much warmer than areas on similar latitudes, for example Labrador in Canada, where icebergs are a common feature in winter.

Scotland is a nation in northwest Europe and is one of the four constituent countries of the United Kingdom. Scotland occupies the northern third of the island of Great Britain and shares a land border to the south with England. The western highlands of Scotland is one of the wettest places in the UK receiving annual rainfall up to 4577 mm. Eastern Scotland receives less than 870 mm of rainfall, lying in the rain shadow of the western uplands. Vigorous Atlantic depressions which are also known as European windstorms are a common feature in the autumn and winter in Scotland.Snowfall is less common in the lowlands, but is more common in the altitude. Parts of the Highlands have an average of 36 to 105 snow days per year, while some western coastal areas have between 0 and 6 days with snow a year.

Over the northern isles of Scotland, there is no complete darkness even on the longest day of the year. Lerwick and Shetland, has about four hours more daylight at midsummer than London, although this is reversed in midwinter.
