In most Mbalax bands more than half the musicians are percussionists. The common beat of music is the interplay between the sabar which is a bass drum of goat hide stretched across carved mahogany and the more conspicuous tama which is a tiny hour-glass shaped drum placed under armpit of the player to change its pitch.

Ozio- This is arguably the best place to party in Dakar. Cool music and nice people come to this place. It is not particularly expensive.
Tamango Bar - The bar provides good live Jazz but serves expensive drinks.
