One of the main attractions in Dakar is the light house at the top of one of the hills to the north of the city. It is said to be the second largest light house in. Surrounding the light house is a gorgeous courtyard. The sea breeze which blows around constantly gives a pleasant feeling at the top.
Close to the lighthouse is a mosque. The mosque is very near to the ocean. On the waters of the surrounding sea one can see boats as well as boat houses. The Mali market close by is another interesting place to visit in Dakar. Here one can find thousands of wooden stalls side-to-side selling herbs, cola nuts, fabrics, baskets, jewelry, gourd bowl and strange liquids for unknown use
The artists colony located near the national stadium is also a nice place to visit.Sculptures, painters, papermakers, leather craftsmen and Senegalese glass artists can be found in one place.
One of the most spectacular landmarks in Dakar is the Pink Lake. It was formed when the seas retreated many thousands of years ago. As a natural oddity this can be compared with the Dead Sea. The entire lake has a bright pink color which is more evident during sunrise and sunset. The color is due to the deposits of feldspar minerals in the base of the lake.

This is the local market in Dakar. Here you can get local crafts such as wood carvings, handmade drums, and clothing in all the brightly-colored fabric, handmade furniture, to fresh fish, fruits and roots that are purchased in bulk and are used for cleaning teeth by chewing.
