Parc National de la Langue de Barbarie, Saint Louis, lies to the south west of Guembeul Avifaunal Reserve, about 25 Km from the town of Saint Louis. The city lies on a narrow island at the mouth of the river Senegal, where the river is cut off from the Atlantic Ocean by an estuary named as the Langue de Barbarie. It is the confrontation of the ocean and the river. The region is very fragile but still managed to survive through the flood tides and the power of the waves.
