Singapore is the melting pot of all the culture, arts and cuisines from around the world. You will get an idea about the rich culture of Singapore if you go on a tour of the memorials in Singapore. One of the most frequently visited sightseeing place in Singapore is the Kranji War Memorial. You will come across the Kranji War Memorial on the Woodlands Road in the Kranji area of Northern part of Singapore. The Kranji War Memorial in Singapore is dedicated to the memory of the men and women who had lost their lives while defending Malaya and Singapore against the Japanese forces during the World War II. The martyrs belonged to the countries of Australia, Canada, India, New Zealand, Netherlands, United Kingdom, Sri Lanka, and Malaya.

The Kranji War Memorial is easily accessible from different parts of northern Singapore. You can catch a train and arrive at the MTR Kranji Station and walk down for just five minutes to reach the Kranji War Memorial. If you want you can hop into a 170 SBS bus from the Rochor Road which will take you to your desired destination. The Kranji War Memorial is open from seven o' clock in the morning till six o' clock in the evening everyday. You are surely going to have a wonderful time at the Kranji War Memorial along with your family and friends.

The marked graves of more than four thousand servicemen who had given up their lives during the Japanese occupation stand on the manicured lawns in neat rows. The bodies of around twenty-four thousand soldiers and Air Force men could never be recovered so their names are inscribed on twelve columns. The columns actually represent the Army which marches in perfect neat columns while the cover of the columns in the shape of an aircraft's wings stands for the Air Force. The Navy is represented by the periscoped shaped structure on the top of the columns.

Initially the Kranji War Cemetery was a hospital burial ground when the Japanese had occupied Singapore and later on after the war became a military cemetery. The bodies of servicemen which were buried in different parts of Singapore were exhumed and reburied at the Kranji War Memorial ground. The Kranji War Memorial is also the burial ground of the first two presidents of Singapore.
