Kristenbocsch Gardens, Cape Town is an internationally renowned botanical garden that is outrageously beautiful. Situated along the eastern slopes of the Table Mountain, Kristenbocsch Gardens, Cape Town has 22000 species of indigenous plants most of which grown exclusively in the Cape Peninsula.
The Kristenbocsch Gardens in Cape Town covers a total of 524 hectares of land of which 36 hectares are cultivated. Some indigenous species of South Africa's floral kingdom like Fybnos, Proteas, Cycads and lawns are amalgamated with ponds and streams. The well laid out pathways make for easy walking for the visitors. The garden is a must see tourist attraction in Cape Town for all tourists. Founded in 1913, Kristenbocsch Gardens in Cape Town has grown over the years with some objectives:
- In 1915 it was research, education and preservation of the indigenously grown plants
- 1n 1938, research, scientific study, conservation and displaying the various species
- In 1955 the main objectives were scientific and educational
- In 1996 the objective of the authority was to conserve, appreciate and enjoy the rich floral kingdom of South Africa for the advantage of the people.
The Kristenbocsch Gardens, Cape Town has also started the Kristenbocsch Environmental Education Programme in 1996 to focus on garden based School Programme, Outreach Greening Programme and Teacher Professional Development. The aim is to create awareness and inspire people to take responsibility for the preservation of the environment.
There are several eating joints and restaurants at Kristenbocsch Gardens in Cape Town. Silvertree restaurant and Fynbos Deli is one of the most popular restaurants where rich variety of food is served amidst a majestically beautiful surrounding.Weddings, parties, dinner parties and cocktail parties are organized from time to time. Kristenbosch Tea Room and Caffe Botanica are some recommended ones in the garden where one can savor delicacies during their tour of the garden.
Kristenbocsch Gardens is open to visitors on all days from 8 am till 6 pm between September and March. However it closes an hour earlier at 5 pm between April and August.The entry fee is fixed at R30 for adults and R5 for age group 6 - 18 years. South African Students are allowed entry at a concessional rate of R5. Senior citizens are allowed free entry on holidays.
