There is only one Airport in Drakensberg known as the Durban International Airport. The Durban International Airport is situated close to Drakensberg. It manages several international and domestic flights to and from all major parts of South Africa. The Durban International Airport, the only Airport in Drakensberg is the smallest of the three airports of South Africa. The airport is accessible from the N2 and M4 freeways.
The Durban International Airport which is the only Drakensberg Airport is located in the Durban South Industrial Basin. There were plans to change the location to La Mercy as that would promote more tourism. It was planned like this as the area of the Durban International Airport is more suitable for industrial development. The proposed new La Mercy airport would be called King Sh aka International Airport. King Sh aka was the name of the renowned Zulu leader. This new airport is expected to become operational before the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
