Millwood House Museum in Knysna is a small house which was situated orginally in Millwood. Later it was re-built in Knysna. The Millwood House Museum, Knysna is one of the national monuments in South Africa. It is a treasure trove of artifacts which comprise belongings of George Rex, the founder of the town of Knysna. It also has paintings, print material and photographs pertaining to the history of the township of Knysna. The Millwood House Museum, Knysna also houses material relating to the gold mine operations undertaken in Millwood during the gold rush.
History of Millwood House Museum, Knysna
The house originally was built in Millwood during the 'Gold Rush' in 1885. In the year of 1885 gold mines were discovered in Jubilee Creek in Millwood. The house was built from yellow wood. However, it was later built again in Knysna.

George Rex acquired a large piece of land by the Knysna Lagoon in 1830 which is known by Knysna.He settled in Knysna with his family and ran a timber business. A young smart Scotsman by the name of Thomas Henry Duthie married the third daughter of George Rex, Caroline. In 1833 he purchased a farmland called Belvidere from his father-in-law .
