Sea View Lion Park, Port Elizabeth

Built in 1975, the Sea View Lion Park, Port Elizabeth is tucked away located on the Eastern Cape's sunshine Coast which is 25 km west from the Port Elizabeth's city centre. Spread across a total area of 120 hectares with dense bush and grassland, the park offers the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity of viewing the wildlife in their natural habitat. Sea View Lion Park, Port Elizabeth boasts of approximately forty species of wildlife varieties. Visitors will find here giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, impala and monkeys roaming free. Also, there are crocodile, rock monitors, meerkat, genets, jackals and caracal or lynx housed in camps and enclosures in the sanctuary areas. At times, these animals are released free.

It goes without saying that the main attraction at Sea View Lion Park, Port Elizabeth is its lions. Currently, the lion population is approximately 55 of which around 25 are sub-adults and cubs. The unique thing here is that the all the lion cubs born at the Park are hand-reared and visitors can handle these animals against a small fee. It is interesting to know that when lions are hand-reared and become familiar with human company, they are not allowed to be hunted. Other star residences of the park area are the three white lions, successfully bred in the park in the last 2 years. One of the purposes of the breeding program at Sea View Lion Park in Port Elizabeth is to create a second gene pool to breed healthy white lions conserving this rare species.

At Sea View Lion Park, Port Elizabeth, you can go for a bird walk viewing several species of birds. For those interested to feed the animals, the feeding time is at 12.00 noon on every Sunday. Visitors can also camp in the exclusive 30 site caravan or camping site next to the main lion enclosures. Visitors can also take an elevated walk along the new Sappi Adamas Mill Walkway and view the animals at close quarters.

Visitors can halt for a light meal at the African theme restaurant at Sea View Lion Park, Port Elizabeth. It offers a vantage point of the hilly terrain to the north teeming with wildlife and to the south a view of the ocean where whales and dolphins are often spotted.
