Zuurberg National Park, Port Elizabeth derived its name from the Zuurberg mountain range which lies from west to east. The Zuurberg National Park is spread across a total area of 51,319 acres in the Winterhoek Mountains which is located 12 km. away from the north of the Addo National Park. As far as the geographical features are concerned, the height of this area above the sea level varies from 250 meters to 970 meters. Three species of the endangered cycads can be found in Zuurberg National Park, Port Elizabeth.
The history of Zuurberg National Park in Port Elizabeth has it that it was in 1985 when this area was proclaimed as the Zuurberg National Park. In 1994, this area was joined to the Addo Elephant National Park. The Zuurberg Pass was built between 1848 and 1858.
