31st of December every year marks the last day of the Gregorian calendar. It is New Year’s Eve. Every home is busy preparing to welcome the New Year in South America. Tomorrow is another day, another year; many new resolutions are to be made and new promises to keep… Yes it is a nostalgic moment as we bid adieu to the old year. It is believed that if this dummy, signifying the old year, is burnt; it will burn with itself all the unpleasant memories and incidents with itself. At midnight the dummy is set on fire by the members of the household and the firecrackers that were also stuffed go off. This boosts the celebration and every body enjoy!

Different Customs and traditions are observed in the celebrations of the New Year South America. In Brazil, Fireworks and crackers are burnt to mark this event, attracting millions of tourists each year. People like to visit the beach and welcome the New Year in the laps of nature. While in Rio De Janeiro the goddess of the sea and mother of the waters is worshipped, in Salvador the New Year celebrations are marked by plenty of music, dancing and huge festivities.

In Venezuela, a South American nation, New Year is celebrated by a huge family meal and champagne. All the members of the house sit together and enjoy the meal before lighting up the artificial fire in order to bring in good luck to their families.
