Gyeongju: This is the cultural capital of South Korea and is located within a driving distance of an hour from Busan. This city also bears a historical significance as it was the former capital of the kingdom of Silla, which ruled most of Korea in the 7th to the 9th century. Because of all these the city is rich in culture and heritage.

Tourists coming here can have a glimpse of a number of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. These are the:

Gyeongju National Park: Besides watching the exotic flora and fauna, you can also go indulge in hiking as there are a number of hiking trails that lead up to the mountains.

Bulguksa Temple: This is the most beautiful temple of South Korea located on the outskirts. If you want to have the best glimpse then visit in the early morning.

Seokguram Grotto: Tourists coming here can see some interesting stone carvings in one cave.

Korean Tap-dancing Museum: This is a world famous museum and here you can try various tap shoes dating back to 16th century. You can also pick up a “Kwanshamman" as a souvenir.

Being a cultural center Gyeongju also holds several festivals and events. These are

Tourists can also go on a shopping spree in the Covered Market. The best items to buy are ceramics, metal works, and artworks.

Jinju: Jinju is a small city located within a driving distance of an hour and a half from Busan. This quiet town is cut half by the Nam River. The most noteworthy of the tourist attractions is the Jinju Fortress. The wonderful sightseeing spots are:

Jinju National Museum: This is located at west end of the fortress. Here you can have a glimpse of a number of exhibits including displays of Imjin War. Except Monday the museum is open daily from 9 AM to 5 PM or later.
