Donghwasa Temple, Daegu is a beautiful and famous temple in Daegu which is visited by tourists from all parts of the globe. Donghwasa Temple, Daegu is situated at the southern foot of Mt. Palgongsan. This temple attracts tourists from different parts of the globe. Built in 493 by Geukdal, this temple was again reconstructed in 832 A.D. by Simji

Originally this temple was known as the Yugasa Temple. Donghwasa Temple, Daegu was renamed as "Donghwasa (temple of winter flowers)". The renaming of the temple has a story behind it. During the reconstruction of the temple in winter, paulownia trees decorating the compound was blossoming and this paved the way for renaming of the temple.

Donghwasa Temple, Daegu has been reconstructed eight times. The present installations have been reconstructed sometime in the late Joseon period (1392-1910). Donghwasa Temple, Mt. Palgongsan, Daegu has got six satellite temples which are:

    There are eleven cultural assets officially designated by the central government of South Korea and Donghwasa Temple, Mt. Palgongsan, Daegu is one of them. On July 28th, 1988 Donghwasa Temple, Daegu has been given the status of the 9th head temple of a Korean Buddhist order, Jogyejong.

    The name, “Jogyejong” of the Dae Han Bulgyo Jogyejong is derived from the name of the mountain where Seon Master Huineng used to reside. From the time of the Tang and Song dynasties, Seon Master Huineng was called Jogye Hyeneung. It is evident from this that the Jogyejong has continued to maintain the mainstream lineage of Patriarchal Seon in its original state. The ancestor of Jogyejong, Do-ui received the Seon Dharma from Xitang Zhizang (735-814).

    The other famous Buddha image in the Mt. Palgongsan, Daegu is the Buddha on Dongbong Peak. The Buddha on Dongbong Peak of Mt. Palgongsan, Daegu, is an image of 6-meters height. It is engraved on the surface of a gigantic rock and a master Bunisa Temple, piece of architecture.
