Yuseong Spa, Daejeon is the spa area which is believed to have a strong healing according to the traditional folk stories and historical events. There is a story behind the formation of Yuseong Spa in Daejeon. It all began after the decline of the Bekje era when a mother was seeking a drug for his wounded son who was badly wounded in a fierce battle during the Silla Dynasty. She searched and searched until she saw a wounded crane from a snow capped field. The crane dived into the water puddle and then emerged with a healed wound. Seeing this, the lady also brought her son to the puddle and immersed his wounded limb in the water. To her great surprise the wound was cured completely. She then decided to build a hut around that fountain and invite the ill or the wounded people for a natural treatment in the fountain.
Some historical account also suggests that King Taejo and King Taejong of the Joseon Dynasty also visited the spring and took a bath there for treating their disease. Many people followed after that to take a healing bath in the spa. In the 70’s, the authorities took some serious measures to develop the spa and protect it from decadence. Today there exist more than a 100 motels to accommodate the visitors coming to Yuseong Spa, Daejeon.
Yuseong Spa, Daejeon has alkalized water with pH of 8.4 percent. It is because of this that various kinds of diseases like neuritis, digestive disorders, gynecological problems and obesity that people frequent the spot. A bath here is quite healing and it relieves you off your physical pains.
