Prehistoric Gallery
This gallery displays the various archaeological objects primarily excavated in Gwnagju and Jeollanam-do Province from the Paleolithic age, Neolithic age, Bronze Age and Early Iron Age.
Proto-Three Kingdoms Gallery
The Three Kingdoms of Mahan Jinhan, Beonhan grew into ancient countries like Baekje, Silla and Gaya consolidating their political system. Important features of this age include the widespread production of iron artifacts for daily use. The gallery exhibits the iron articles and weapons along with .pottery and bone and shell- made tools.
Buddhist Art Gallery
In the Gwangju National Museum, this gallery shows the rise and spread of Buddhism as a religion in this place.
Goryeo Celadon Gallery
The Goryeo Celadon gallery demonstrates the process of how to produce porcelain and how it took on the many different forms of what we see today.
Joseon Buncheong Ware and White Porcelain Gallery
Joseon Buncheong Ware and white porcelain gallery displays the production process of porcelain. The gallery helps understanding features of Buncheong Ware and white porcelain in this area. It shows the relics excavated from Buncheong Ware and white porcelain kiln of Gwangju Chunghyo-dong.
Art Gallery
A few paintings collected from Joseon Age to Modern Age are on display in the art gallery. The art helps one understanding of Honam art better.
Sinan Marine Relics Gallery
Excavated relics from trade ship, which was sunken around 600 years in the sea of Sinan are on display here.
Outdoor Exhibition
This exhibition has relics discovered through study and inspection by the Gwangju National Museum. The relics here were buried cultural assets. As preservation in the original sites is not feasible they have been moved to the garden of this museum to be displayed.
The museum is closed on Mondays but admission is free on the first Sunday of each month. Admission is free for those under 18 or over 65 and either 200 or 400 Won for others.
