The village also has zelkova trees and nettle trees, which are few hundred years old. When you wander around this area, you would feel that you have gone back to the past. The area of Seongeup Folk Village, Jeju was the provincial capital during the Koryo period and now the area is maintained by the local government. In this village you would find about 3,000 thatched roof houses with stone and clay walls. Though the villagers enjoy all the modern amenities such as color television, telephone and a lot more yet they prefer to maintain that ancient architecture of the buildings where they stay. You would appreciate the unique architecture that you can find in the island. You would spot stone walls made of black lava rock. The streets are straight and the stone statues are the primary features of the land. Here you would also find local black haired pig and the pigsty.
Here you would also find Hyangkyo, which is an old government building and Tolharubang, which is a famous tomb. There is a famous souvenir shop also where you would find tiny harubang, key chains and other small items that the tourists love. Do not forget to buy at least one souvenir for yourself because you can nowhere else get such handicraft items which have history of more than 100 years attached to them.
