Korea University Museum, Seoul was the first university museum in South Korea. It was set up in the year 1934. It was established with the help of funds given by Ahn Ham-Pyung. The museum shows the rich tradition and culture of the people of the region. It houses many folklore items that have been donated by many people. Korea University Museum, Seoul has great cultural value and you must visit it on your trip to the city.

Korea University Museum, Seoul is located close to the main entrance to the university. The museum is a rectangular shaped structure. The building is sliced towards the bottom to facilitate a sloping floor in the auditoriums. The museum is three storied and spacious. The first floor of the museum contains tools, fine arts, scientific instruments and maps. These belong to the time period 18 B.C to 660 A.D. The second floor is home to the artifacts which are from the Neolithic period. The third floor is reserved for exhibitions belonging to Korean Modern art.

The exhibits of the Korea University Museum, Seoul include national treasures like: The Punchong Placenta jar. This served the purpose of storing the placenta of the children that were born into the family of the Chosun dynasty. Another national treasure is a map of the city laid out in wood by Kim Jeong-Ho who was the 19th century cartographer of Korea. “Armillary Sphere with Clockwork” comprises a wooden box that contains one gravity pendulum on a side and one armillary sphere on another side. It was made by Song Ee-Yong, an astronomer in 1669. Another national treasure in the museum is a painting belonging to the Chosun dynasty. The painting depicts the “Palace of Illustrious Virtue” in the eighteenth century. The painting is unique as it was laid out on a folded canvas that comprises 96 frames.

The Korea University Museum, Seoul is open to the public all through the year. It is also an invaluable source of research for students and academicians. This is one of the best museums in the city and you would have a nice time examining the many exhibits in the museum.
