National Museum of Korea, Seoul is one of the most important museums in the history of South Korea. This is the cultural hub that represents the country. The museum was set up in 1945. The National Museum of Korea, Seoul is a six storied building. It is 404 meters high. The museum has an oblong structure. It has three floors. The left side of the structure symbolizes the past while the right end symbolizes the future. The archaeological gallery situated in the first storey houses almost 4500 artifacts. These belong to the duration from Paleolithic to Balhae age. There are 10 exhibition rooms in the archeological gallery. These include: Neolithic room, Paleolithic room, proto three kingdoms room, goguryeo room, balhae room, unified silla room, silla room, gaya room, early iron age room, and bronze age room. There is the historical gallery which is also situated on the first floor. There are maps, inscriptions and many valuable documents displayed there.
The second storey of the National Museum of Korea, Seoul comprises the donation gallery and the fine arts gallery I. There are 1000 pieces of famous arts that are there in the museum and some have been donated by private collectors. The third storey of the museum is home to the fine arts gallery II. There are 630 items in the gallery that represent the craftwork and sculpture of Korean Buddhism. There are 5 rooms in the gallery. These are: White porcelain room, Metal arts room, Buncheong ware room, Buddhist sculpture room and Celadon room. There are 970 items in the Asian Arts Gallery situated in the third floor. There are six rooms here which include: Central Asian art room, Indonesian art room, Chinese art room, Japanese art room, Sinan sea bed room, Japanese art room and Nangnang remains room.
The National Museum of Korea, Seoul is surrounded by a wonderful garden. There are parks, pools and waterfalls and also an excellent collection of a lot of Korean art. The building is well protected from earthquakes. The cases in which the items are displayed are equipped with platforms that are seismic protective. These absorb the tremors and shocks of the quake. There is also a system to purify the many items of the museum. The museum is also well protected from fires.
