Daegu is South Korea's fourth largest city. It is one of the metropolitan cities in the country. It serves as the capital city of Gyeongsangbuk-do province. It is nestled in a basin encircled by mountains. The city is bordered by Palong-san towards the north and the Gaya-san foothils in the west. The Geumho river flows through the eastern and the northern edges of the city. The river empties its waters into the Nakdong River, towards the west of the city. Mt Palgongsan and Donghawasa Temple

Mt Palgongsan is situated towards the north-eastern part of the city. As you drive along the road to the beautiful Mt. Palgongsan you will arrive at a fork region which marks the entry point to the Pagunjae Pass. The temple is situated at a 30 minutes drive from this region. The temple is over 1000 years old. It was formerly founded by Priest Geukdal and named as Yugasa Temple. However, the temple was rebuilt by Great Buddhist Teacher Simji. The temple was rechristened as Donghwasa Temple. When it was being built the surrounding paulownia trees were in full bloom. One of the first sights that will greet you as you enter the temple complex is the Bonseoru Tower. The main attraction of the temple is the worship hall which sits in the heart of the temple. It serves as the abode of Amitabha Buddha, Pharmaceutical Buddha and Shakyamuni Buddha. The hall was constructed during the rule of King Yeongjo belonging to the Joseon Dynasty. The other attractions of the temple are Buddhist wall paintings, twin pagodas and Buddhist Hermitages.
