Bilbao is a city which represents the culture and tradition of Spain. The city is well-known for its architecture and art. The Arriaga Theater is one landmark in this city of Bilbao which acts as an entertainment centre. The Arriaga Theater is named after the famous music composer of Bilbao 'Juan Crisóstomo Arriaga'.
This theatre was built on 31st May 1890. It was the first theatre in Bilbao.The construction of this theatre was on for over a period of five years. It is a classic example of an entertainment centre which displays the latest technological development while all the interiors are made taking care of Spanish culture. It is one of the favorite spot for Bilbao's citizens as well as the visiting tourists.
Unfortunately it was burnt in the year 1914. Federico de Ugalde was the one who take initiative to rebuild it and gave it a new structure and look. It was opened again for public in the year 1919 where people could witness various performances.
Arriaga Theater was in existence also during the time of World War. In the year 1978, Government of Bilbao took over this theater when the condition was below the standard and was very difficult to maintain.
Unfortunately the theater was damaged in the year 1983 again because of floods. It was renovated again in the in the year 1985.
Many performances take place in Arriaga Theater like Spanish plays, concerts, operas which will always be an attraction of tourists visiting Bilbao city.
