Bilbao is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Spain attracting thousands of people to travel in and out of the city each year. Traveling by flight is the most convenient and time saving option to reach Bilbao and the excellent flight services only enhances this joyride. The passengers' traffic has increased by double in the last ten years.
Designed by the popular architect, Santiago Calatrava, Bilbao Airport is the name of the main Airport Terminal in Bilbao. In Spanish, it is called Aeropuerto de Bilbao and is located at a distance of 12 km from the city center.
Bilbao is well connected to the north of Spain. It is connected to Santander in the West and to Irun, France and San Sebastian in the East through the A-8 road. The AP-68 provides the connection with Madrid, Zaragoza, Victoria, Barcelona, Logrono and Burgos. The baggage area at the Airport in Bilbao features a bright room present on the ground floor of the terminal. After collecting the luggage, you have to go to the main Bilbao Airport Arrivals hall where you can look out for the buses and taxis to reach your destination. On the top floor of the terminal, the Bilbao Airport Departures Hall is present which features 36 check-in desks. It is accessed after crossing a five-lane bridge. After checking in, you can enjoy shopping in the Duty Free shops or in the various other gift shops and fashion outlets present in the departure lounge. There is a 300 m glass sided corridor taking you directly to the aircraft. There are many domestic flights to take you from Bilbao to other Spanish Airports such as Barcelona, Coruna, Madrid, Alicante, Palma, Gran Canaria, Malaga, and Seville etc. At present, there are only limited international flights from United Kingdom and Ireland. They are British Airways, Easyjet and AerLingus. British Airways offers the flights from Heathrow Airport to Bilbao, Easyjet from Stansted and AerLingus from Dublin.
Information about buses and taxis can be availed in the Arrivals Hall. There are taxis available outside the airport to take you to the city center. The Airport buses start the service at 6.15 every morning. They are available at every 30 minutes till midnight. There is a good facility of car hire at the airport provided by some companies. Parking facility at the Airport in Bilbao is pretty decent. However there is no facility for storage of luggage. Bilbao Area Guide is provided at the Airport that gives the information about various Shopping Areas, beaches, good restaurants, markets, local attractions and golf courses. The Airport in Bilbao is absolutely marvelous coupled with all the modern amenities to facilitate the travelers.
