Airports In Madrid

Madrid is the capital city of Spain and the biggest city in the country too. In 1928 an airport was constructed at Barajas 15 km from central Madrid. And today with recent renovations and new constructions, the Airport in Madrid has a provision of about 31 million passengers flying to different destinations to and from Madrid. This airport has the credit of having the longest runway and it is linked to many European airports. It is located in the heart of the city.

The airport has three terminals that are linked by corridors and moving walkways. There is a transfer bus service for passengers changing terminals and flights. The terminals are Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Terminal 3. In the year 2006 Terminal 4 was constructed with two runways.Terminal 1 is the biggest, while in terminal 2 there is a lounge area to relax and watch the planes taking off and landing. Terminal 3 is small compared to the other two. Airport in Madrid has a convenient parking area. There are frequent bus services from the city to reach the airport. The terminals are colored in orange, green and red. It takes twenty minutes to reach the airport from the city. There are many duty free shops inside the airport.

The airport bus services operate every fifteen minutes. These buses depart from the underground bus terminals. The metro subway connects the city with the airport. Terminal 2 is the station for the airport metro station. Taxies and cabs are also available in the airport and it takes about 25 minutes to reach the city depending on the traffic. Passengers changing flights from international to domestic airlines may use the free bus services. Luggage facilities are available in terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Small and large lockers are provided here. To use these lockers passport or identification card is required. Throughout the terminals there are 22 information counters to help and provide information to the passengers. There are also two tourist information counters.

Airport in Madrid has banks, ATM facility and a post office. There are many restaurants, cafes and bars, pharmacies, nurseries and a medical service center in Terminal 1. In Terminal 2 conference rooms are available. For disabled Travelers wheel chairs are provided. There are also reserved parking spaces for disabled passengers.There are three good hotels near the airport. They are Hotel Tryp Barajas, Tryp Alameda, and Tryp Diana. A playground is housed here to keep the children busy.
