CAC Malaga

Their Royal Highnesses, the Infanta Cristina and her husband, Inaki Urdangarin, Dukes of Palma officially inaugurated the CAC Malaga on 17th February, 2003. This dynamic 'House of Art' opens the new trends and forms of expression in contemporary art. It encourages the local participation and emphasizes teaching and education. Malaga's CAC holds different exhibitions and other pioneering events. It also offers knowledgeable seminars and courses reflecting on different aspects of the contemporary art. CAC includes 57 works by local, Spanish and international artists.

There is a permanent collection of around 400 pieces donated by the private collectors. This collection includes the works from late 19th century by the artists such as Regollos and Beruete. It also includes numerous recently created pieces that are more artistically experimental. They represent the selective landscape of the contemporary art in the present day. The permanent collection is a display of the works from the period 1950 to the present. There is the North American art of 1960s represented by the artists such as Stella and Lichtenstein. CAC Malaga includes a section dedicated to Spanish paintings from 1980s. This section represents the works of the artists such as Campano, Broto, Quejido, Barcelo, Sicilia, Cobo, Usle and Gordillo. The collection includes both national and international names. It contains the traditional work such as sculpture, painting and photography and modern work such as videos, installations and a mixture of the expressive languages.

There are three sections namely Homes, Concepts & Feeling and People which include the new selection of the permanent collection. The first section, Homes, includes houses, cities, artificial landscapes and their elements. The second section, Concept and Feeling, focus on the constant search for humanity and everlasting duality between spirituality and rationality. The last section, People, puts focus on the communication society, racial intermixing, social roles, violence, traditions, feminism and contamination. There are bronze sculptures such as the installations by Guillermo Paneque De Comun acuerdo, Untitled by Pedro Cabrita Reis and Standing Figure by Louis Bourgeois. CAC Malaga arranges lectures, exhibitions, seminars, workshops and other activities. It also provides a library for the students and researchers.

You don't have to pay to visit the museum. From Tuesday to Sunday, the museum is open from 10 am to 8 pm. In summer, it is open from 10 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 9 pm. It is closed on Monday. It is closed on 25th December and 1st January. CAC Malaga is a lively, dynamic place and one of the popular tourist destinations.
