The Picasso Foundation, Malaga

Malaga has many attractive tourist destinations. The Picasso Foundation, Malaga gives the information about the wonderful art of Picasso. Pablo Picasso was a famous Spanish painter and sculptor. The Picasso Foundation, Malaga is located in the house where Picasso was born on 25th October, 1881. This building was built by Diego Clavero in 1861 and completed by Rafael Moreno and Geronimo Cuervo. Since 1991, this building is a part of the Spanish Museum System.

The whole building was renovated and went under the possession of the Foundation. Their Majesties, the King and Queen of Spain inaugurated this foundation on 22nd June, 1998. The Foundation is located in the Plaza de la Merced. It is situated in the historic center of the city near the Alcazaba, the Roman Theatre, the Cervantes Theatre and the cathedral.

There are two exhibition areas in the Foundation building. The first area is assigned to the drawings and pottery created by Picasso. It also includes the articles and video giving information about his life. Another area includes the works by different artists. The Foundation organizes the cultural events in the memory of Picasso.

There are the natural porcelain pieces like Fish, Bull's Head and Centaur. There is a section of illustrated books which contains the items donated by Christine Picasso, daughter-in-law of Pablo Picasso. It includes unique illustrated versions of 'Dos Contes' by Ramon Reventos, 'Carmen' by Prosper Merime and 'Vingt Poemes' by Gongora. There are paintings like 'Dreams and Lies of Franco'. They were designed for the International Paris Exhibition to increase the funds for the Republican cause at the time of the Spanish Civil War.

It is open from 11 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm from Monday to Saturday. On Sunday, it is open from 11 am to 2 pm.Malaga's Picasso foundation is helpful specifically for the academic visitors.
