The third train line links the southern coastal towns of Matara, Galle, Hikkaduwa and Aluthgama that travels via the Coast Line from Colombo. Apart from the main lines there are several branch lines also that connects other regions of the city. The trains are in good condition sand there are categories of compartments ranging from first to third class, making the comfort of rail travel dependant on your budget. The other options are via taxis and buses. Transportation in Colombo is very convenient and efficient.

The city includes three main bus stations that are all located in the southern Pettah, which is not far away from the Fort Station. You can easily travel by bus to most major destinations across the island. The Saunders Place Station is known to operate buses to Negombo, Ratnapura, Badulla and Anuradhapura, while Bastion Mawatha Station provides buses to Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle, Matara and the airport along with several other places. There are both private and government buses that are very convenient to get.
