Trincomalee Beach

Trincomalee Beach is one of the beautiful beaches of Sri Lanka. The guests and the visitors pay a visit to the Trincomalee Beach whenever they pay a visit to Sri Lanka as this beach gives a beautiful view and a memorable experience to the visitors.

Trincomalee Beach is located 250 km from the capital Colombo. Trincomalee Beach is a natural harbor. Horatio Nelson, the British admiral of the 18th century had described Trincomalee as the finest harbor in the world. Trincomalee offers some of the best sea bathing in the country. Trincomalee Beach is more commonly known as Trinco. In the northern stretch of Trinco, known as Nilaweli, low beach goes up to half a mile into the sea. The hot wells and the Pigeon Islands are the important places of tourist interest in the surrounding area. There is an old Portuguese or Dutch castle suggestive of the Colonial era.

The strategic importance of Trincomalee Beach has formed its fresh history. The great European powers struggled for mastery of the harbor. The Portuguese, the Dutch, the French and the English each held it in turn and there have been many sea battles also.

Trincomalee Beach is a prime eco tourism site which is located on the northeast coast of Sri Lanka and offers some of the country's most attractive beaches such as Uppuveli and Nilaveli. Fine white sand and crystal clear water provides a tempting combination that will not fail to disappoint any visitor who loves to visit the beach. Snorkeling around the famous Pigeon island just off Nilaveli beach is broadly recognized to be an important and compulsory activity during a stay in Trinco in Sri Lanka.

Windsurfing is also a very popular activity in the area of Trincomalee Beach. Away from the beaches, the town has one of the most attractive and complex colonial histories in the whole of Sri Lanka. Its ownership changed between the king of Kandy, the Dutch, the British and the French on a number of different occasions. During the current war, the beauty of the area continued to draw many travelers and since the peace resolution in 2002 visitors have increased in their numbers.
