After the formation of the Kalmar union in the year 1397, Sweden was unified under the leadership of King Gustav Vasa in the 16th century. Later on in the 17th century, the Swedish Empire was formed and the territories were expanded.Sweden had its last war in the year 1814, where it entered into a personal union with Norway and this union lasted upto the year, 1905. In short, Sweden is a peaceful country and has adopted a policy of non alignment.
