Sweden’s only preserved medieval stave church of Hedared, Borås is one of the must see Borås Tourist Attractions. Stave churches were mainly used in Sweden and Norway as heirs to pre-Christian cult temples and shrines using similar methods of construction and Hedared, Borås is also no exception. The ancient Hedared Stave Church still houses medieval relics and valuable paintings.

The ancient church of Hedared in Borås is located between Alingsås and Borås in Västra Götaland county.
Visiting Hours
Hedared Stave Church remains opened from 1st May to 15th June and 16th June to 17th August. The time is from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
History
The church had only walls and a roof, earth floor and no windows in the time of construction. Hedared, Borås has been amended a couple of times. The wooden floor was added in 1735 and the present windows were attached in 1781.
The exterior portion of Hedared in Borås was restored in 1901 as original as possible, but the windows were kept. In 1934-35 the interior was reinstated in the time of removing the inner walls an altar painting was discovered. It was painted directly on the wall. A more advanced re-establishment took place in the 1990s. The church was raised some 70 centimeters and the old wooden ground was substituted.
Collection
There are an old altar (kalk) dating from the 13th century, wooden sculptures of Virgin Mary and Saint Franciskus and beautiful old paintings in Hedared in Borås. The paintings were done by Johan Ehrenfrid.Make a trip to Hedared, Borås.
