The Souq al-Hamidiyaa has many tiny shops with columns built during the Roman empire. One can buy some good leather, glass, furniture items here. The Umayyad Mosque is another tourist attraction with four minarets and is an architectural marvel. The mosque has the grave of John the Baptist in the main lounge. One can also visit the mausoleum of Salah al-Din, which is also known as Saladin, who was the chief crusader. A statue of the crusader stands right next to the citadel. The October War Panorama in the suburbs was built with North Korean Government help and is a nice tourist attraction.

Activities in Damascus
One can view the city from Mount Qasioun which must be visited. The peak is accessible at any time, though during night time, it provides some spectacular sights of the city when it is well lit. There are numerous good restaurants in old Damascus, each of which have its own character. One can also relax at one of the Hooka Café which is very popular in the city.
