Airport in Damascus




The main Airport in Damascus is the Damascus International Airport (DAM). The airport is located at a distance of 35 km southeast of Damascus. There is another Airport in Damascus, the Aleppo Airport (ALP), which is to the northeast of the city. Both these Damascus Airport have regular flights to Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

The Damascus International Airport is the busiest airport in Syria. There are many duty free shops found in the airport, making it easy for the passengers of flights to buy. There are coffee shop, large Internet Cafe, many souvenir shops, restaurants in the departure hall of the airport. A business first class lounge exists at the airport.

The arrival hall of the airport has a branch of the Central Bank of Syria. Many exchange bureaus are available at the airport, making it easier to exchange currencies and traveler's Cheques at these counters.

The different airlines which have connections with DAM include Air France, Austrian Airlines, aaalitalia, Air Arabia, Air Alegerie, Aeroflot, BMI, Caspian Airlines, Egypt Air, Emirates, Etihad Airways, Gulf Air andmany other airlines.

Many domestic flights also operate between Damascus and Aleppo, Lattakia, Deir ez-Zur, Qamishle.

Transportation in Damasus
The roads in Damascus are narrow in the old city parts. The public transport depends mainly on minibuses. One can avail the rail services to and from Aleppo and Latakia. While coming from Aleppo, the train stops at Koms and Hama, while the train coming from Latakia stops at Homs and Tartus. The main train station in the city is at Qadam located at the southern suburban area.

Getting around Damascus
The best way to go for sightseeing in Damascus is on foot, especially during rush hours from 10am till 4pm. Renting a car is not always the right means as there are traffic snarls one the roads, especially during Summer time. One of the best way to move around the city is taking the micro bus, also called servee. These buses can take you to any part of the city during rush hours. There are no fixed spots for Micro buses and one has to gesture at the driver to stop to get it.
