Regarded as one of the most important tourist attractions in Homs the Mosque of Khaled Ibn Al-Walid is not only an important religious site but is known for its historical significance.The Mosque of Khaled Ibn Al-Walid is one of the most famous tourist destinations in Homs as this is the famous as the burial ground of Khaled Ibn Al-Walid. A place of great significance for the Muslims this sacred place has the tomb of the great leader. Popularly known as Sayf-Allah al-Mashul which literally means Sword of Allah, Khaled Ibn Al-Walid was responsible for a number of Muslim conquests during the 7th century. He was a famous Arab General who was part of the army of Rashiudin. The stories of his valor is famous all over the Arab world as he remained invincible in over 100 battles and have drawn his sword against the Persians, Romans and the Byzantine empire. In the history of military conquests the name of Khaled Ibn Al-Walid is taken with great respect.

The brave general has fought a number of battles and has remained more or less invincible but his greatest victory was against the Persians and the Romans within a span of just three years. The Mosque of Khaled Ibn Al-Walid which must be included while sightseeing in Homs has a big tombstone dedicated to him. Apart from his life history one can see the long list of achievements including his numerous victories. There are over 50 victories in his credit in which he was a commander and have faced victory all through the way. This great general died in 642 in Homs and a tombstone was erected in his memory in the Mosque.

It was his ardent wish that will die while fighting a battle but he actually died peacefully on his bed. One of his famous sentences depicts his disappointment when he said that although his body is full of bruises from the battles yet he has no choice but to die on the bed which reminds him of a camel. He was not only a valiant soldier but was known for his great tactics and planning. One of the famous battles in his career was Battle of Walaja where he used “the tact of double development” against an army that was not only great in number but was considered invincible.
