Bourzey Castle
This is one of the major Castles in Syria. It is also known by the name of Mirza castle. The structure is placed at height of 45 meters from the sea level and can be reached from Jeser Alshghur, which is at a distance of about 20 kilometers from the castle. It was built by the Byzantines and many old scriptures support this theory by mentioning the name of the Bourzey castle of Syria. It has a triangular shape and its western part is 175 meters high and the eastern one is 50 meters high. This is one of the main Castles in Syria that features 21 towers. Inside the castle one will also fine churches. After the end of the Byzantine rule, the structure came under the control of Ayyubids and later of the Mamelouks.
Chastel Castle
It is one of the lesser known Castles in Syria. It is also known by the names of Qa'lat Yahmur, meaning Castle of Yahmur, and Castrum Rubrum. The history of this Syrian castle will tell you that it was captured and destroyed by Saladin in the year 1188. However, the Crusaders later rebuilt it. The village of Yahmur where this Chastel Rouge is located is not far from Safita and Tartus. It will take 10 and 20 minutes respectively to reach the places from the castle. This was one of those castles in Syria that belonged to a Frankish family and used to protect the County of Tripoli. The outer walls of these structures are 42 meters long while the donjon here is 16 meters in length.
Halabiye Castle
This castle is located on the coastal region of Euphrates, which is approximately 58 kilometers from the northern part of the Der Ezzor city. It is situated in the district of Al Tibni. The castle has large arches.
Hosn Suleiman
This castle is located on the slope of the mountains of Alnabi and Alsaleh. You will notice the huge stones bearing inscriptions in Greek and Latin.
Krak des Chevaliars
This castle is popular for its two lines of defense which are concentric ones.
