Jabaar Castle, Syria is an Arab fortress, which is picturesquely located on a small island amidst the blue waters of the Euphrates River. Like most Arab fortresses, Jabaar Castle, Syria is situated on the top of a hill and is surrounded by walls, towers and a ditch.

History of Jabaar Castle, Syria
It has not been known what was on this site before the Arabs built the fortress. The Arab tribe Banu Numeir held this place before the Seljuks seized it. At the time of the first crusade, it was probably annexed to Edessa's territory. The city is very ancient and holds a strategic pass to the south through which runs a road which is being used since time immemorial to travel between Anatolia and northern Mesopotamia.

In 1144, Zengi Atabeq of Aleppo seized it, then it was handed down to his son, Nur Al Din who the Mongols destroyed constructed most of what we see today in 1260. After that the castle was again rebuilt by Mamelukes it in the 14th century.

There is a spectacular minaret in the castle, made of brick which somewhat resembles the one in Al Raqqa. Al Raqqa became famous in the 12th century for its glazed ceramic industry. In 1960, Al Raqqa became famous with the building of Al Thawra Dam and the Assad reservoir. Al Thawra Dam is the main source of Syria's electricity. After years of neglect, since the 1970s a lot of Restoration work has been carried on in the Jabaar Castle, Syria.
