Margat Castle, Syria is also known in the Islamic languages, as Marqab or Markab Castle. The castle is located 3 km from the coast of the Mediterranean sea. The Arabic meaning of the name Margat is "Castle of the watchtower." The Margat Castle, Syria is located on top of one of the coastal mountain peaks and stands tall like a crest.

Margat Castle is in many ways the most beautiful of the Crusader fortresses in Syria. The Arabs founded Margat Castle in Syria in 1062. It was then seized by the Byzantines and then later on passed into the hands of the principality of Antioch. It was then sold to the Hospitallers in 1186 and was reconstructed and used by the crusaders until it fell into the hands of Sultan Qalaun in 1285.
