Qasr Alheer Alsharqi Castle Syria

Qasr Alheer Alsharqi Castle, Syria is located in the middle of the desert. This castle which is also known as Eastern Alheer Palace is situated at distance of 128 km from Palmyra and 100 km from Sergiopolis (Rusafa). It was built by Umayyad kalif Hisham Ibn Abdul-Malek around 740 A.D. The surrounding of Qasr Alheer Alsharqi Castle, Syria is known as an area rich in desert fauna. It is believed that kalif used to relax here during his leisure hours and spent his time hunting and learning pure Arabic from the local Bedouin tribes.

Syria is a land of grand Castles, like Areimah, Arwad, Burj al-Sabi, Burzey, Krak, Marqab, Mehelbeh, Safita, Saone, Tartus, Yahmur, Aleppo, Bosra, Damascus, Ibn Maan, Jaber, Najim, Rahba, Shaizar, Sukara, Abu Qbeis, Al Kahf, Maniqa, and Masyaf. Qasr Alheer Alsharqi Castle is one of them.

Composition of Qasr Alheer Alsharqi Castle, Syria
The palace is composed of two structures. The bigger of the two structures has a diameter of 300 meters and the lesser one is of 100 meters. The castle stands tall at the slopes of Bishri Mountain, near Palmyran Middle Mountains. The palaces contain remnants of rooms, arches and columns which seem to be ruins of gigantic royal premises. Some of the well decorated remnants have been moved to Damascus National Museum.

The bigger palace is comprised of several floors, with a huge gate and many towers. Towers were not built as defensive measures. There were also olive yards and an oil extracting mill. The palaces were supplied by water from nearby Byzantine church by a canal 5700 meters long. The palaces contained bathrooms, water reservoirs, mosques and gardens.

From the top of the Qasr Alheer Alsharqi Castle the views to the four points of the compass are spectacular. Eastward, the low green hills stretch like moorlands toward the distant desert's edge. South, beyond the castle moat and outer wall, a few new houses of concrete block and stucco have crept close to the edge of the castle's outer ditch.

You will definitely enjoy your trip to the Qasr Alheer Alsharqi Castle, where history blends with scenic beauty.
