History of Shaizar

In 969, the control of the city was passed on by the Byzantine emperor Nicephorus II, and was again it was captured by Basil II in 999. After it was captured, it became the southern border of the Byzantine Empire and was administered by the Bishop of Shaizar. It was passed from one ruler to the other, during different time periods.
