On 25th December, in 1947, the Constitution of the Republic of China was signed. 25th December used to a be an official holiday. Presently, 25 th December had stopped to be an official holiday to avoid too many legal holidays. However, people celebrate Christmas in Taiwan unofficially.

The Christians and non Christians bear a festive mood on this day. The municipality of Kaohsiung is decorated with lights and Christmas trees. In the various cities in Taiwan people musicians could be seen parading the city streets and singing carols. Christmas is celebrated with great fervor in Hualien, situated towards the eastern part of Taiwan. In other parts of the country, like in Taichung city, huge Christmas trees as high as 12 meters are put up in the city government squares. During the Christmas season the shops and restaurants are beautifully decorated with saccharine jingles and cotton snow.

Christmas Celebrations in Taiwan are marked by people going out to eat at restaurants or preparing special feasts at home or going out in the evening to watch beautifully decorated Christmas trees in city squares. The streets are lit up in a kaleidoscope of colors. The Christian families in the country decorate Christmas trees at homes with bells and stars. On Christmas Day they go to churches and attend special services. They visit the houses of relatives and friends and convey their best wishes and greetings. In the evenings special feasts are hosted. During Taiwan Christmas it is hard to overlook the Christmas cheer twinkling in the eyes of the people of the country. When the Christmas euphoria is over people get ready to celebrate New Year in Taiwan.
