Facts about Taipei include a large number of important points that will help you while traveling to this exotic place. It is located in an area that was full of swamps and grassy lowlands. Only aboriginal tribes lived there. Later the Chinese came to fish and to do business here. The number of immigrants to Taipei began to increase.

Taipei was originally built like a rectangle-shaped with four main walls on the east and west. The city faces from north to south, and its main axis points towards the North Star. After the Japanese colonized Taiwan in 1895 they still continued to develop the city and then it eventually became the economic, administrative and cultural center of Taiwan.

Taipei is bordered by the Xindian River in the south and the Danshui River in the west and it extends to the north of the Keelung River and it borders the Yangmingshan National Park of Taipei and the whole city is surrounded by mountains.

The climate of Taipei is subtropical. The monsoons are from April to September. Winters in Taipei are short with temperatures hovering around ten degrees Celsius. The summers are hot and humid with an average of 30 degrees. The weather is quite rainy.

Taipei is the nerve center of both the government and the culture in Taiwan. The important industries in Taipei are the textiles, metals, electrical and electronic equipment, shipbuilding and motorcycles.

The traffic in Taipei is often chaotic and the pollution levels are quite high. There are both the subway and elevated rail lines. There are buses that run regularly on all the major roads and some roads have special lanes for buses as well. There are the meter taxis too that are readily available.

You can visit the numerous museums that are there in Taipei. There is the National Place Museum, Taipei gallery, National Museum of History, and Miniatures Museum of Taiwan.

The other places that you should not miss are the Yangmingshan National Park. There is the Butterfly Corridor that has about 151 species of butterflies and it is about two miles long and takes about two hours to walk. Do not miss the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall and also the Longshan temple.
