Lungshan Temple



Lungshan Temple, Taipei is one of the most popular temples in the country of Taiwan. It is situated in the Kuanzhou Street. It was constructed in 1738 by some Chinese settlers from Fujian. The bustling city of Taipei is the commercial capital of Taiwan. It is a cultural city as well and you would have a great time exploring the many wonders of the land. Lungshan Temple, Taipei was a site of worship as well as a place for gathering for the settlers. The temple has been constructed in honor of Guanyin who is the Goddess of mercy and many other divine beings. Buddhist, Taoist and Matsu folk deities are worshipped in the temple. The layout of the temple is square. The structure is divided into three sections. There are the front and rear halls. There is a middle hall which is protected by dragons in the left and right. The architecture of the temple is beautiful with designs on the poles, beams and doors of the temple. The temple has dragon poles made of bronze in the hall in the front and four more pairs of bronze dragon poles situated in the hall in the middle. The temple also has wonderful wood structures.

Lungshan Temple, Taipei belongs to the Ching dynasty. There were many natural disasters as well as human damages that affected the temple. There were many earthquakes that brought down the structure of the temple. In 1945, the temple was hit with bombs by Americans who suspected that arms were hidden inside the temple by the Japanese. The temple has however managed to withstand all these calamities.

Lungshan Temple, Taipei has innumerable Chinese verses and lyrics inscribed on the walls of the temple. These writings impart a sense of literary beauty to the temple. During festivals the temple is very well decorated with lights and there are a lot of events that are held in the premises of the temple. The temple is one of the most famous tourist attractions and attracts huge number of devotees on the first and the fifteenth day of every lunar month.
