Geography: Tangier is located in the northern region of Morocco. In fact Tangier is situated in the northern coastal region of Africa, which is the functional point of the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean off Cape Spartel. The North Atlantic Ocean also shares its eastern border with Tangier. Tangier is situated in the western region of the Strait of Gibraltar. Spain lies in the northern side of Tangier and the Atlantic Ocean is there in the western side of the city. The Atlas Mountain ranges cover a considerable portion of the city.
History: Tangier was known as “Tingis” in the prehistoric era. Earlier it was considered as a Phoenician town. Still now Tanier is known by the names such as Tenga, Tinga or Titga. The Berber mythology says that Sufax, Tinjis’s son built this city. Tinjis in fact is the goddess of the Berbers and the name of the place originally came from the name of the goddess. Initially the Berbers inhabited Tangier and even in these days they are still here.

Economy: Economically Tangier is a very stable city in Morocco. Not only that it is also the second important industrial center in Morocco, while Casablanca is in the first position. Tourism is the primary industry of the city. Some of the other major industries of Tangier are textile industry, mechanical industry, chemical industry, metallurgical industry, naval industry and so on. There are some industrial parks also in the city. To talk about the agriculture of Tangier, cereal is the primary crop.
Administration and Government: Tangier is one of the 15 regions in Morocco. Tangier is also one of the 37 provinces of Morocco. The legal system of the city Tangier primarily follows the Islamic law, French law and Spanish law. Prime Minister is the head of government and the Governor is the head of the local government. The Parliament is bicameral in the city.
Transport System:
Travel to Tangier– Ibn Batouta is the only one international airport in Tangier. Frequent flights fly from this airport to several destinations. CTM Coaches are also available from the airport to various places.
Traveling in Tangier– After you reach Tangier you will get various local transports in the city to roam around. Tanger Ville is the name of the railway station of the city. Frequent trains are available from this station. Besides that taxis such as Grands Taxi, Petit Taxi; bus, motor vehicles and many more transports are available in tangier.
Society and Cultural Life: Tangier is hole to various ethnicities such as Muslim, Christian, Jewish and many other religions and several races. So naturally, Tangier has gradually developed a rich and diverse cultural atmosphere. Music and dance are two integral parts of the Tangiers’s culture. Rock music is the most popular form of music in this city. One of the famous music bands is the Tangiers, which is a Canadian Rock music band.
Educational Institutions: There are various educational systems in Tangier such as Moroccan, French, Spanish, American, English and so on. The primary section of education is giver the highest priority. Tangier is home to many international primary schools and private schools. Besides that there are also many popular universities in the city such as Institut Superieur Internationale de Tourisme etc. Except these, you will also find some institutes for business administration and hotel management courses.
