Lome, capital of West African republic Togo, is the Country's principal administrative, transport, and economic centre as well as the chief port. Togo does not have a natural harbor, but in 1968 a major deepwater port was constructed east of central Lome. An autonomous free port at Lomé serves the countries of Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali. The international airport at Lome links Togo with other countries of West and Central Africa and with Europe. A second international airport was built in the early 1980s at Niamtougou. Air Afrique is the main international airlines operating from Togo. Air Togo operates domestic service flying to airstrips at Atakpamé, Sokodé, Sansanné-Mango, Lama-Kara, Niamtougou, and Dapaong.

Togo's climate varies from tropical to savannah. It is known amongst the facts on Togo that the South of the country is humid and the temperatures ranging between 23 degrees C and 32 degrees C. Temperature fluctuations are greater in the North from 18 degrees C to more than 38 degrees C.

The best way to get to Lome is through air. Lome boasts of having daily international flights to and from Europe and major West African cities. Accra is only a three hours drive from Lome but the border remains closed occasionally. It takes only five hours to reach Lagos by road.
