National Parks in Togo are a major attraction in the country. The 3 major National parks in Togo are Fazao-Malfakassa, Fosse aux Lions and the Keran National Park. The different regions of Togo offer a wide range of diversified fauna and a flora with changing landscape. The Maritime Region is rich with mangroves, especially in the Basin of the Mono River. Fazao-Malfakassa National Park
This park is situated in the centre-west of the country. It is close to the international border with Ghana. It has the largest area of undisturbed vegetation in Togo. The terrain is rugged. The northern part consists of the Monts de Malfakassa and the central part consists of the precipitous Monts du Fazao. The Falaise de Boulowou runs along its western edge. The habitat in the park is varied and includes savanna woodland and dense forests and grass-covered hilltops. This park is a sanctuary of birds, primates, reptiles, and other animals, managed by Franz Weber Foundation of Switzerland. It is open for safaris from November to April during the dry season
Keran National Park
This park is situated in the north of the country. It is made of the flood-plain of the Koumongou River a tributary of the Oti. The main vegetation in this park includes wooded savanna dominated by Daniella oliveri and Butyrospermum paradoxum, the forests beside and the sparsely-vegetated, plains with some rocky ground. The site includes the Mare-aux-Lions, a small wetland area close to the Koumongou River where one can come across birds and mammals of different types.
Fosse aux Lions
This reserve is situated in the relatively dense settled areas. The reserve protects a population of about 60 elephants on the Dapaong plain. Other species found here include Warthog, patas monkey and vervet monkey. Antelopes are also found in small numbers.
The Togodo National Reserve in the south east is another important park. It supports mainly buffalo. Some antelope species can also be spotted here.
