Niuas is a remote island located in extreme north of Tonga. Tourists wishing to come here can take the weekly flights from Tongatapu.     Niuatoputapu Island: This is the main island of Niuas and is approximately 18 sq km in size and has a population of 1,283. This island is situated 516 km north of Tongatapu and is surrounded by beautiful beaches. Besides beaches tourists can also have a glimpse of the small coastal fishing villages and a number of wonderful churches. The best way to explore the island is by foot and it takes only 8 hours to get around the whole island. Tourists coming here need not worry about accommodation as there are two excellent resorts namely the Palm Tree Resort and the Kaloline's Guesthouse. The Palm Tree Resort is located on a beautiful white sand beach and offers its guests with all necessary comforts throughout their stay. The Kaloline's Guesthouse is located in Hihifo Towne and has all the amenities to tailor to guests’ needs.

    Tafahi Island: This Island lies 9km off the north coast of Niuatoputapu and is an extinct volcanic cone with a height of 656m and a base area of 3.42 sq km. According to travelers this island again resembles Bali Hai when viewed from Niuatoputapu. But what is noteworthy about the island is that it is a favorable hiking spot. Tourists coming here can climb the volcanic cone in a day and hike around the barren lava flows. Only those who have experience in trekking can embark on such a hike as it is very difficult. The island also features a small village with approximately 100 inhabitants.

    Niuafo'ou Island: This is the remotest island in Tonga and lies 640km north of Tongatapu This island is also known as Tin Can Island because of its unusual postal service. Tourists coming here can enjoy swimming, sun-bathing and can also have a glimpse of some of Tonga’s beautiful lakes.
