History of World War II occupies a major part of the History of Kanchanaburi. During Second World War Japanese government of Thailand built the Death Railway Bridge on the historically famous River Kwai. The bridge is famous in negative way. Under the supervision of Japanese administration this bridge was built to carry its soldiers to Burma Camp. 2 lakhs Asian workers and 60,000 Allied prisoners were forced to build this bridge. During the construction 100,000 workers and 16,000 prisoners died. There is a war museum and big grave of these unfortunate prisoners and workers. On this unfortunate event famous Hollywood director David Lean made an unparallel film called Bridge on the River Kwai

There are numbers of historical monuments and museums that depict the History of Kanchanaburi during Second World War. Among other historical sites there is Prasat Muang Singh which one of the major old Khmer place of Thailand. Here you can find numbers of work of art, shrines which are shown in the museum. In the museums of Kanchanaburi you can also see various evidence of the Neolithic past of the place.

The History of Kanchanaburi also includes the Nine Army War which was fought between King Rama I and King Padung of Burma. You can have the sight of the historical proofs of this war in Nine Army War National Park. In Kanchanaburi you can also see the Three Pagodas Pass.
