Festivals in Lampang


Festivals in Lampang are celebrated with lot of pomp and show. There are many local festivals of which some play a vital role in the lives of the people. Satonkchang or Kantonk Festival is organized yearly on the first Friday,
Saturday and Sunday of February at Thai Elephant Conservation Center. The festival is separated into two parts. The first part is elephant’s show and Kantokchang. The second part is to have Kantok meal.

On April 13 – 14, Songkran is celebrated by giving food to monks, paying homage to venerate Buddha image, deferentially pouring water on elder’s hands and water throwing.

The historical horse carriage and train in Lampang’s recall day is organized on every the first of April. It recalls that the first Luang Train was arrived in Lampang Station. The other festival which makes a great celebration is the Thai New Year, April 1, 1916. . Yorkun Wang River Festival is revitalized and people put food in the bowls of Buddhist priests.

'Sa Loong Luang' or silver bowl festival which is also observed with much fanfare is one of the popular festivals in Lampang. Be a spectator to the 'Sa Loong Luang Procession' wherein multicolored parades of Lampang's Emerald Buddha' are brought out onto the streets. Also prepared as part of these festivities are beauty pageants. Another admired highlight of Festivals of Lampang is its Chao Phor Pratu Pha Shrine ceremony and Pineapple as well as Food and Fish Fairs.
