Nong Khai is a small province in Thailand located on the banks of the Mae Kong River. It is only 24 kilometers from Vientiane opposite to Tha Dua on the other side.
Actually Nong Khai is a part of the river basin in the north. It is a plateau with deciduous forest in the east while the west has mountains and forest adjoining forest area of Loei Province. Originally people went by boat from Tha Sadet, but the building of the Friendship Bridge across the Mekong has made Nong Khai a chief centre for transport and trade with Laos.
