Acapulco is said to be a city which never sleeps. A very vibrant and colorful, the city of Acapulco in México presents fabulous night long parties, enchanting mountain cliffs and enigmatic sea coast of the Pacific Ocean. History : According to historical evidences, the previous inhabitants of Acapulco were the Nahua Indians dating back to 3000 BC. The evidence of trade with Chinese during the 412 is also found. Due to the location of Acapulco on a deep, semi-circular bay, Chinese then called Acapulco as “Ye Pa Ti” which means “Place of beautiful waters”.
In 1521, with the fall of Aztec Empire, Acapulco was occupied by the Spaniard Hernan Cortes. Cortes turned Acapulco in to a large shipyard in order to make ships and conquer more territories. In 1950 the Nahoa Indians were imprisoned and dislocated from Acapulco which was their homeland for more than 1000 years. This was the beginning of the Spanish colonization in Acapulco.Acapulco played a very important role in making México independent from the Spanish colonies in 1810.
Acapulco Geography : Acapulco is located on a deep, semi-circular bay on the southwestern tip of Mexican Pacific Coast. The town of Acapulco is very narrow, about half mile wide, surrounded by sea on one side and mountains on the other. The semi circular bay of Acapulco is considered to be the most beautiful bay of the world. On north and south of Acapulco there are two large lagoons. The beaches of Acapulco vary from white shell beach sand to yellow grainy sand.
Acapulco Economy : The major industries of Acapulco are Oiling and Tourism. Till 1960 approximately 40% of the population was engaged in agriculture, which gradually changed with the course of time.|

- Acapulco Airways : The Alvarez International Airport of Acapulco is 23 km southeast of the city centre. It is a very busy airport with flights taking off and arriving from US, Canada and Europe.
- Bus : There are frequent bus services along the cost. Sistema Estrella Blanca and Estrella de Oro are the two first class bus operators connecting Acapulco with México. These buses come at the bus terminals of Central de Autobuses on Ejido and Estrella de Oro's bus terminus. From here one can get to the central city by buses marked Centro or Caleta. Plenty of local buses run through out the city from 5 am to 11 pm.
- Ship : There are several Cruise liners like Celebrity, Crystal P&O, Cunard, and Princess Cruises which anchor off Acapulco.
- Cars & Taxis : Rental car services have kiosks at airport and hotels. It's a 6 hours drive from México to Acapulco. Taxis are available almost every where in Acapulco. There are several types of taxis found in Acapulco the most popular ones being the large American type vehicles and the old fashioned Beetles.
Acapulco Educational Institutions : There are several educational institutes in Acapulco.
Cultural Life : There are several cultural festivals of Acapulco.
- All Hallows Eve : this is celebrated to commemorate the memory of all those small children and angels who have died. People from every house offer sweets, candles and flowers on the altar. People dressed like ghosts take part in several parades organized on this day.
- Candlemas : The procession of candlemas is very colorful. It takes part during the afternoon followed by speculating fire works in the evening. Special carnivals and dances are also a part of candlemas.
- Dia de la Raza : this is celebrated in remembrance of Columbus' discovery of México. It is a national holiday and is celebrated with parades, open air concerts and exotic fireworks.
- Virgin of Guadalupe Festival : Virgin Guadalupe is the most honored religious icon of Acapulco. Every year in December 11 and 12 Acapulco celebrates this festival in the memory of this god. Streets are flooded with people from all over the city, dressed in colorful clothes. The carnival include music concerts both folk and contemporary, dance performances, and buffet meals.
Religious and Ethnic composition of the population : The people of Acapulco are Roman Catholics. The population of Acapulco is 637,000.
